Manifold Toolbar
Written by Chad on September 19th, 2006Manifold has an toolbar beta out now for IE. The Manifold Toolbar adds geographic browser capability to Internet Explorer and can be used to view Microsoft Virtual Earth imagery or any Manifold server.
You can search and go to locations by a location search or via a lat and lon location.
Now.. I am not saying they are gumpy for getting called out on the whole GE imagery issue a few weeks back but…
manifold.net recommends use of Microsoft Virtual Earth (the default installation) instead of Google servers for several reasons:
- Virtual Earth has a more even appearance in large scales.
- Virtual Earth does not interrupt service to active users, as Google has been known to do.
- Virtual Earth does not “watermark” images with a disfiguring logo as Google does.
- Virtual Earth has better resolution in many (but not all) locations.
- Microsoft has supported developers working on alternatives to Microsoft’s own geographic browsers.
Following their “We don’t feel like making our websites usefull” standard.. there are no screen shots of the toolbar in use. I tried installing it.. and it doesn’t work for me so I also have no screen shots to show it’s use.
