Stiring the World Wind Pot

I missed the community / NASA meeting last night but from the gist of what was talked about afterwards things should be interesting.

  • No 1.3.6 or 1.4 betas just yet.  Some stuff still needs to be fixed first.  I don’t have an ETA just yet.
  • There was a bit of a moving around at the NWW operations and focus changes.  This affects mainly the .Net / Java development.  The focus is now more towards the Java version of World Wind (because that is what the clients want.. and they are the ones giving NWW funding).  This is understandable and logical.  But we don’t want the .Net version to end at 1.4, so the OS community is looking into taking over the .Net development from NASA with guidance from them.  Again, nothing solid there as well.
  • Along the lines of WWJ, the NASA devs don’t want the OS community to tinker with the Java code “just yet”, already had one oops becasuse that point wasn’t communicated.  But that hasn’t stopped what_nick from working on it anyway.. he is just not commiting his changes yet.  His blog post has some screen shots of WWJ being built in Eclipse and a running version showing a 3D globe with imagery.

That is all I have for now, more as I find it out.
