San Diego – Part 1

Written by Chad on December 9th, 2006

(Posting my my room at the Paradise Resort and watching a paddle boat go by in the bay) Yes, I am breaking this up into multiple posts (and not to just spam planetgs  ), a lot happened to just get here.

Well, as I said in my time delayed post, I left Thursday night to fly to San Diego to give several presentations and take the family on a vacation. Well, when we got to the airport we saw that our flight was delayed by an hour. That was OK as we have an hour and 45 minute layover in Chicago. But after we had checked in and made our way up to the gate we saw that the flight had been delayed an hour and 45 minutes now.. that is pushing it really close to our connection flight.

So, down I go to the check in desk to ask if there would be an issue to missing our connection flight, and if we did.. are their any others. Obvious answer was “no more flights after that one leaves” so I am a little concerned but we decided to wait till closer to the flight getting in to see if we want to take the flight and risk missing the connection or not go and they would re-book us for first class on the first flight in the morning.

But the flight showed up at 7:10 and found out that the connecting flight was also delayed by 30 minutes, so we would have to walk fast to make the connecting flight but we would make it. flight out went well, took 45 minutes to get there but seemed like we had to taxi for 30 minutes just to get to our gate. During this time they announced the connecting flights and what gate they were at.. no mention of the San Diego connection.. bullet sweating time again.

Get off the plane and check the flights, ours is delayed and taking off at 8:55 .. so we have almost an hour to go. So, we got a chance to eat some over priced food.

About 9pm they call our flight and we start boarding, give them our tickets and there is an issue with them, it seems we were dropped from the flight somehow. It was a very WTF! moment. But she got us back onto the flight and off we went to San Diego finally. Long flight and slept mostly.. and the seating arrangement is not setup well for a 17? notebook.

Finally got to San Diego and went to get our bags.. the kids bags showed up and we waiting for my bag to get there.. no bag. Go over after a while to the American Air help desk and checked to make sure nothing was still coming.. nope, it was all there. My bag was lost and most likely still in Chicago.. so give them the address of the resort we are at and they would bring the bag over as soon as it shows up.

After that we went to get the rental car and made our way to the Paradise Resort. It was a good thing it was 12:30am when were were driving over as I had to shift lanes a few times to get to the right location. But we made it alive here! And dead tired (body clock was telling me it was about 4am)
