More Goodies Hidden in World Wind Unstable Branch

Written by Chad on January 11th, 2007

What_nick and withak have been doing some interesting things in the World Wind Unstable branch.  (Now to get them to divert all that energy to getting World Wind Stable out ;)

First off we have the Flickr Plug-in that what_nick has been toying with since Christmas time.  It isn’t ready yet, but in this screen shot you can see that there are markers where a picture is Geo Marked.

A lot of the code is hard coded right now, and there is no GUI for it yet.  And when complete, instead of the marker like there is now, the picture will show up instead.

What_nick has also been busy making changes to the MeasureToolNG (Next Generation).  I gives a more accurate measure of distance and takes into consideration the curve of the Earth.

Withak has taken that code and run wild with it.  Now it also shows a terrain profile of the measured distance.  This is done using the SRTM30 / 90 data that is used to make the 3D look of the globe.  Now you can get a more accurate view of how the terrain looks under the measure line (this is a cross section profile you would see).

Here are some screen shots of it in use.

    My congratulations!
Tools “height a long of path” need for many quests (roads, fly, mountain trip). I think before about near tools for GE and not make this. WW now have new professional tools.

That is the nice thing about World Wind over GE. You are free to do anything you want within World Wind to make it do the things you want.
