Somalia SWALIM Add-on For World Wind

Written by Chad on April 22nd, 2007

I think my putting out the Somalia Refugee Migration add-on finally pushed Daniel and Maurizo to finish this imagery add-on.

The Somalia add-on is a set of topographical maps covering Somalia in 100k and 200k resolution, Vector data of Mogadishu streets and general data, and displays areas affected by flooding, in addition a few areas also have othophotos provided by DigitalGlobe. The data in this add-on was obtained by Madmappers from various sources, they then processed the data and in collaboration with SWALIM,FAO and FEF put it on servers for access by World Wind users and relief agencies.

This imagery is not public domain, please see the license section for more information.

This is also the first official World Wind imagery layer to use the Digital Globe / QuickBird imagery. As of this moment it is of several small locations of Somalia. There is more to add, but it is a slow process as toes do not want to be stopped on. But this is NOT imagery from Google Earth, this imagery comes from a different route.

Here is a sample of the QuickBird imagery:

And if you can read Russian, here is what the 100k Topo maps look like:

You can download this add-on from the World Wind Central wiki page here.
